NBAA applauds Presidential signing of bonus depreciation

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) recently lauded President Obama for signing into law legislation that includes a provision for "bonus depreciation," to accelerate cost recovery of strategic business purchases this year, including business aircraft.

The measure, included as part of an overall legislative package for small businesses, passed the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate earlier this month.

"NBAA thanks President Obama for enacting this important tax provision for American businesses," said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. "Now that the President has signed the measure into law, companies will be able to take advantage of the provision right away, giving them access the benefits of business aviation."

NBAA repeatedly called on Capitol Hill lawmakers to support legislation to extend accelerated depreciation for investments in strategic business assets, including aircraft. Earlier this year, NBAA joined with more than 80 American businesses and organizations to send an open letter to House and Senate leaders calling for a renewal of bonus depreciation that expired at the end of 2009, to extend the tax benefits to preserve manufacturing jobs, and at the same time give companies immediate access to the benefits of asset investments, including the purchase of business aircraft.

More recently, Bolen used an appearance on the national television show, CNBC's "Squawk on the Street," to underscore the importan ce of bonus depreciation for business airplane sales. To view a video clip of that segment at www.nbaa.org/news/multimedia/videos/20100824-cnbc.php.

In addition, NBAA Members have used the Association's "Contact Congress" resource to reach out to elected representatives to request their support for accelerated depreciation proposals.

PremiAir Ryder Cup helicopter shuttles “fully booked”

PremiAir, the UK’s leading executive helicopter charter company and the supplier of helicopter services to the 2010 Ryder Cup, is now fully booked on its charter fleet for helicopter transfers to and from golf’s most prestigious golfing tournament, which takes place next month.

From October 1st to 3rd, the Ryder Cup returns to the UK and for the first time, the magnificent Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales. Celtic Manor’s dramatic 2010 course has been specifically designed to host the tournament with the best players from Europe and the United States meeting the challenge for the most passionately contested trophy in golf.

PremiAir is operating daily helicopter transfers from airports throughout the UK and Ireland with the four-seat Eurocopter AS355 Twin Squirrel and the Sikorsky S76, which seats up to eight passengers.

“Given the option of more than two and a half hours driving from London to South Wales or a 50 minute helicopter flight, enjoying stunning aerial views of the Ryder Cup golf course along the way, our clients have clearly elected to take the scenic route,” said Charlie Hounslow, PremiAir’s Charter Services Team Leader. “Our Ryder Cup helicopter shuttle packages have been on sale since February and our own charter fleet is now fully booked. We are providing transfers direct to the Celtic Manor from starting points including Bath, Cardiff, north Wales and the brand new London Heliport.”

PremiAir has good working relationships with other helicopter operators from within a list of approved suppliers and can act as a broker to assist with any requirements it cannot now meet from within its own charter fleet.

With PremiAir every stage of the journey is managed seamlessly, transferring clients quite literally, from door to door.  PremiAir secures all the necessary landing permissions, oversees ground handling requirements and the PremiAir crew will attend to every need onboard. Clients can relax – or choose to work – secure in the knowledge that they’ll arrive in absolute safety, on time, relaxed and in the most elegant way imaginable.

Established for more than 30 years, PremiAir scooped the ‘Best Executive Aviation Provider’ accolade at the 2010 Business Travel Awards. The company’s reputation as a world-leading supplier of aviation services spans both executive helicopters and private jets - from private charter to aircraft management; from aircraft operations to maintenance and engineering and from aircraft sales and acquisition to police air support.

Air Charter Service Hong Kong has a whale of a time

Earlier this month Air Charter Service Hong Kong flew eight Beluga whales from Vladivostok, Russia into Guangzhou, China.

The large marine mammals - which can grow up to five metres long were being flown to China for a new zoo due to be opened in Zhuhai in early 2011. There were five female and three male white whales which are naturally found in the Arctic regions only.

The aircraft chartered was an IL-76 the large cargo aircraft was required as the whales and their tanks weighed a total of 32 tons. Because the aircraft has a non-pressurised cabin it had to fly at a low altitude and had to be temperature regulated. As the cargo was so precious there were eleven cargo attendants in total on board one for each whale, a head veterinarian, a zoo representative and an ACS representative.

The flight took months to organise as specialist tanks had to be built, and various other issues had to be meticulously planned between the zoo, the airline and ACS.

Gavin Copus, ACS Asia Pacific CEO, said: The flight went extremely smoothly, and the whales were offloaded really quickly and arrived at their final destination in comfort. This was an impeccably planned operation, and credit must go to all involved.

Air Charter Service has a long and proud history of livestock flights carrying anything from day old chicks to elephants. ACS also provide executive jet charters and commercial airliner charters.
